President and founder of Development Praxis Consulting, Sophia Friedson-Ridenour, PhD, has worked in international development for over ten years, with a specialization in sub-Saharan Africa. Trained as a qualitative researcher, she has substantial experience collaborating on mixed methods projects, and has worked across sectors in the areas of education, agriculture, public health, gender issues, and entrepreneurship. 

Sophia has a strong track record of working successfully with diverse stakeholders including bilateral and multilateral donors, community organizations, and university partners. Consultancies have ranged from working with the Africa Gender Innovation Lab at the World Bank on an impact evaluation in Ghana, to collaborating on market systems research in Mozambique with USAID, to working on an evaluation of  4H clubs in Tanzania for 4H International. She has been awarded competitive research grants to study topics including educational governance, women’s empowerment in agriculture, and the impacts of environmental change on education.

She leads Development Praxis with a strong focus on using innovative approaches to multi-sector and mixed methods research, with an emphasis on moving research to action.
